McCarthy Launches Wisconsin Campaign Attack on Stevenson

Sen. Joseph McCarthy opened his re election drive with a fierce assault on Gov. Adlai Stevenson and his ties to Alger Hiss. He urged supporters to vote next Tuesday and denounced Democratic smear tactics while condemning U.S. Korea policy and calling for a Wisconsin style fight. Governor Kohler and other Republicans joined the rally as 3,000+ attended at a high school auditorium.

Kremlin Ties Listed in Indpendent Union Control

Senate investigators charged that agents of the Kremlin control the Independent Union representing about 65 000 workers mainly in New York City the South and Midwest. The Distributive Processing and Office Workers of America faces perjury action against some officials identified as Communists under Taft Hartley. The union formed in 1950 by merging three CIO unions has a $6 000 000 security fund and more than $500 000 yearly in dues audiences.

Strike Right Granted to Brass Board

Union workers of American Brass won authorization to strike if talks fail. Final vote 722 to 82 at the Union club after ballot counting at 2 30 pm. About 1 200 Local 19322 members affected as contract expires July 15. Negotiations resume next Tuesday with six core demands and a rejected six cent wage offer from July 26.

Allied Sabrejet pilots shot down 12 Communist Mig-15s and damaged three more in clashes over northwest Korea between the Yalu and Chonchong rivers known as Mig Alley. Strike notice filed at Allis-Chalmers plant by UAW CIO

Falling Pole Kills Girl on Highland Sidewalk

Susan Kalanda, 3, was struck and killed when a falling utility pole broke from a guy wire after a passing truck altered the pole. The incident occurred Wednesday as she played on the sidewalk in front of her home in Highland, Wisconsin.

Warm Up Expected In Wisconsin With 80 to 86 Tomorrow

Wisconsin's skies were clear with temps rising after morning lows in the 40s. Darling ton hit 42 degrees as Kenosha logged 52 last night. Nash Motors reported 75, downtown Kenosha 70. Tomorrow promises fair skies and a high of 80 to 86. The sewage treatment plant logged a 66 noon reading and a 69 high yesterday.

McGrath to Testify Next in DOJ Probe

Chilean election sees record turnout and security takeover

Enrollment Up 559 as City Schools Open Year

First day enrollment shows a gain of 559 pupils to a total of 8 957 in the city public schools. Kindergarten and elementary classes lead growth with 316 and 223 more pupils, while junior highs rise by 115 despite senior high enrollment dipping due to lower birth rates in recent years. Special education registrations edge down slightly and more figures from Catholic and Lutheran schools are expected next week.
