Traffic on county highways was unusually heavy over the holiday weekend with five reported accidents injuring nine people. Sheriff’s deputies and local police investigated the incidents and reported no fatalities.
A two year old girl, Joyce Gussarson of Antioch, was bruised when a car backing from a county driveway struck her. Driver Mrs Irene Noble told deputies she did not see anyone in the path. The child was taken to a local physician and then St Therese Hospital for observation.
Erwin Klimczak and Richard Frackiewicz attached to the Polish Embassy in Washington visited the American Motors plant in Detroit and took delivery on two Rambler vehicles for use while stationed in the United States and later in Poland. Klimczak is personal aide to the Polish ambassador. Frackiewicz is the ambassador’s press aide. Neither had previously served in similar posts in the U.S. prior to three months ago. They were guests of the export division.
A kitchen stove grease fire at a Northside residence caused an estimated 250 damage to the building. Fire crews from Engine Company No. 5 extinguished the blaze amid paint and smoke damage to the kitchen. occupant Mrs. Ann Bray 58 of 3002 26th Ave was taken to Kenosha Hospital for shock.
Princess Margaret and her husband Antony Armstrong-Jones landed in St. John's Antigua for a one day visit. The royal couple toured local sights and met residents during their brief Caribbean stopover.
A state senate resolution praised William F. Trinke of Lake Geneva for twelve years in the 22nd district Kenosha and Walworth counties. Introduced by most senators, the measure notes his leadership on wayside stops, the platting law, boat regulation, Menominee County creation, and academic freedom, as he plans to retire and not seek re election.
Paddock Lake Hooker Lake Association held its annual meeting naming Roy Young Miss Martha Heindle and Frank Por topuro as new directors. The organization will elect officers for the coming year at a meeting next Sunday with Aussie Edwards president George Michaels vice president Mrs Mary Fox secretary pro tem and George Kiestler treasurer among current officers.
Health Department reports 142 measles cases in the city during the past week. Other diseases under surveillance include 27 chicken pox 23 mumps five German measles and four whooping cough. Thirty five babies born 18 girls and 17 boys. There were 17 deaths and eight marriages.
Kenosha County Medical Society's institutions committee met Sunday to arrange patient coverage at Willowbrook sanatorium and Brookside. Dr. D Boyd Horsley takes Brookside duty while Dr. Charles Ulrich covers Willowbrook. Dr Paul J Lawrence resigns June 21 and will be away until then. A society meeting Thursday will assign a staff to each doctor.
Joseph M. Zuffa longtime Board of Education member and 11 year veteran launches bid for Circuit Court clerk as a Democrat. He faced possible race against Republican G Adolph Strangberg who has held the post over three decades after filing papers. Zuffa previously ran for county office in 1954 and 1956 and served as Board of Education president once.
The obituary notes the death of a long time Pleasant Prairie resident, daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Peter A Thomey. She married Asa L Siver on November 15 1899 and belonged to St Marys Catholic church and its Altar society. She is survived by her husband and was predeceased by four brothers Frank Walter Charles and Herbert Thomey.
Anna Wellman 76, longtime Kenosha County resident, died Sunday at her daughter Dorothy Horn’s home in Antioch after a long illness. Born August 16, 1883 in Spencer Wisconsin, she moved to Kenosha in 1920 with husband August Wellman. She is survived by three sons Gordon and Clarence and Arthur, a daughter Dorothy Horn, two sisters Minnie Martin and Mary Leatherberry, and nine grandchildren.
Mrs. Matt T. Shiel aged 67 was found dead in her home at 7839 22nd Ave by her sister-in-law, triggering a local investigation.
Mrs. George Riley died Friday afternoon from an acute coronary thrombosis. Born Gertrude Riley on Feb 18 1893 in Pleasant Prairie township she lived in Kenosha after moving from Waukegan in 1923 and returning in 1954. She married Matt T. Shiel in 1923, who died in 1957. Survivors include nephew Charles Riley and niece Dare Lain. She was preceded by a brother George and sisters Sadie and Loretta.
Mrs Roy D Cornelius 68 of 7512 10th Ave died at Kenosha Hospital following a six month illness. Born Florence Jones in Winnebago County Wisconsin on Sept 4 1891 she married Roy D Cornelius in 1915. She moved to Kenosha in 1945 and with her husband ran the Cornelius Coin and Stamp business. She is survived by one brother Albert Jones of Chicago.
Sister Judith of the Community of St Mary died at St Mary's Episcopal Convent 6501 3rd Ave Sunday after a long illness. She was 72 and had taught at Kemper Hall for many years. Born in Minnesota she taught in St Paul schools and at St Katherine's Davenport Ia and Ascension School Sierra Madre Calif. She spent her later years at St Mary's Convent and was formerly Florence Davenport.
Mrs. Raymond Sheehan 60 of Windsor Ontario died Monday after a short illness. Born Mary Blair March 18 1900 in Canada she was the sister of Mrs Cecil DeLabie of Kenosha and frequent visitor to the city. Surviving besides her sister are her husband and other relatives.

Mrs. Robert J. Bohm 63 of 2126 Clarence Ave Racine died this morning at St Luke s Hospital Racine after a brief illness Born in Racine on July 11 1896 she is survived by her husband two sons Robert G Bohm and others with funeral arrangements pending in Racine local paper records indicate.
