U S customs agents broke a gun running ring that planned ship weapons worth about a million dollars to the Caribbean for a counter revolution in Cuba. Fourteen suspects were arrested in the operation led by federal authorities.
Undercover agents arrested 14 alleged plotters at Miami International Airport after three months of surveillance. The group including a Dominican Republic consul general and a female pilot faced bond release pending a June 8 hearing. They were found loading 200,000 rounds of ammunition and multiple firearms onto a surplus C47 transport plane.
Gum chewing Harold McLaughlin 28 admitted kidnapping and slaying Ben Wagner six in Milwaukee. He will be arraigned Monday at 10 a.m. in Port Washington before Municipal Judge Charles N. Larson, held at Ozaukee County jail.
A six year old Racine County boy and a neighbor who chased the kidnapper Harold McLaughlin will be taken to Ozaukee County jail to confront him. The July 5 1958 incident at Honey Creek saw Scott Verdota lure into a car, shots fired at the pursuer, and the boy disrobed but released unharmed at a Burlington street corner.
Britain shipped 21000 cars to the United States in April valued at 2442 million dollars. The figure is double the US sales for the same month a year earlier.
Superior and Duluth authorities counted off limit signs and letters to sea captains to halt a wave of sex and drinking parties aboard foreign vessels in the harbor. The search resumed for Richard Bohnen 25 missing since a party aboard the Norwegian freighter Olav Ringdahl. Authorities fear he fell overboard and drowned.

A fire at the Kenosha Shoe Outlet 6310 24th Ave. forced five people to flee in nightclothes. Firemen rescued one worker when a floor collapsed. The blaze started in the rear of the store and spread to upstairs apartments, causing extensive damage and smoke-filled hallways.
Aeronautics Commission Director Tom Jordan said the proposed two year budget would not cover 25 percent of the 8.2 million dollar airport program costs. He warned communities may pay more than anticipated as parties haggle over funding and matching shares.

Authorities struggle to link 37 year old John J Watson of Milwaukee to the August 9 1958 rape slaying of Mrs Edna Mauch in Wauwatosa. Officials return from a prison visit after Watson cites newspaper reports and refuses to be questioned. A possible connection through a baby born March 19 in Waukesha with blood type B, same as Watson, is noted.
Sens. Wiley and Proxmire joined the majority as the Senate approved, 57 to 20, an amendment to the wheat bill by Sen. John J. Williams to cap price support loans for any one farm or group of farmers at 35000 dollars.

Former secretary of state John Foster Dulles remains in critical condition at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as he battles cancer and pneumonia. The State Department reported no change, with Dulles weakening while under heavy sedation.
The Italian Parliament approved Friday night the national budget for the coming fiscal year, including substantial pay raises for a million government employees.
Seventeen West Side High School baton twirlers in Newark faced shrinking uniforms after repeated dry cleaning. Principal Dr Edward Kennelly suggested they skip Memorial Day, while the Veterans Civic League offered to fund new $25 uniforms for next semester to prepare for the Veterans Day parade.
A second pedestrian death at the five corner intersection Roose velt Road and 75th Street occurred this morning. Mrs Bessie Williams age 62 of 7525 40th Avenue was struck by a light truck as it spun into the crosswalk after being hit by an automobile. The truck driven by Thomas H Lakin Jr age 17 of 4606 85th Street moving on Roosevelt Road on a green light attempted a left turn south on 39th Avenue when struck by a car eastbound on 75th Street driven by Fred Schneider age 63 of Pleasant Prairie who also had a green light. The impact hurled Williams 33 feet into the crosswalk where she died minutes later at Kenosha Hospital. The truck then struck a third auto driven by Richard Anderson age 56 of 3209 93rd Street and stopped after the red light on 39th Avenue. Police continued investigation.
In Sheboygan, defense for John Gunaca filed two motions on Friday. One seeks dismissal of felonious assault charges. the other challenges the court’s jury list. Trial remains set for June 15 before Circuit Judge Clarence Rinehard.
