Kenosha officials survey commercial fishermen who warn lamprey eels devastate Lake Michigan lake trout. Fishermen say only seven of a hundred trout show no eel damage and urge federal and state campaigns to destroy eels in spawning streams. City to report findings at next council meeting.
Kenosha officers Dets Franklin Hill and Leo Zavacki won honorable mention in a Wisconsin police honor contest. They trapped Marquess Russell and Bert Harris in Gordon Auto Parts basement after a Jan 30 attempted safe cracking. Russell and Harris were later sentenced to prison.
A splash party and badminton play were held at the Kenosha Youth Foundation for senior members and guests Wednesday night. The splash event lasted an hour and badminton continued through the evening with players providing their own equipment. Enrollments are being accepted at the KYF main desk for life saving classes for men and women with women starting Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and men next Thursday at 8 p.m.
A Cinkmann, 60, former Kenosha resident, died Wednesday after a brief illness at Milwaukee Emergency Hospital. He spent part of childhood in Kenosha. his father Ignatius was longtime organist at St. George church. He retired Feb. 1, 1946 after 44 years with Robert A Johnston Co. in Milwaukee. Survived by widow Leontena four sons Raymond Pte F Eugene Donald and Marcell and a daughter Mrs Alyce Scherwenka.
A stream of small notices from Kenosha area court actions and local business ads reports Harvey Beam paying a $10 fine and $450 costs for truancy, Clarence Heckel’s assault case dismissed after $5.30 costs, and Robert Wheeling fined $10 plus $14.06 costs for reckless driving. Also numerous ads for services, taverns, repairs, and events.
Mrs. James McCue of Marinette Wisconsin died at St Josephs hospital in Menominee Michigan Tuesday. She was the mother of Thomas McCue of Kenosha and is survived by her husband five sons and two daughters.
Kenosha County 4-H club leaders gather at Paddock Lake school at 8 p m to choose two delegates for the Lake Geneva camp June 12 to 15 with scholarships from Wisconsin Gas and Electric. The session covers agricultural demonstrations, county fair judging contests, leadership in recreation, clothing judging for girls, sandwich making, and wraps with community singing.
Mrs. Sarah Ellen Clark, 38, of 6410 Tenth Avenue, received a 60 day county jail term on default of a $100 fine for lewd and lascivious behavior and is placed on probation by Municipal Judge Edward J Ruetz. Julius Clark, 24, same address, was granted a 30 day stay of sentence after pleading guilty. They were arrested after William Clark reported the affair in a single room. Mrs Clark, a British war bride, married William Clark last July in England and came to the United States in March.
Tom Doig managing director of the national association of credit unions spoke at the Kinosha county chapter annual dinner. He traced the credit union movement from Boston to today and stressed the value of organization and continued cooperation. Fabian Monroe managing director of the state credit union league also spoke.
Wisconsin cities may ration water after coal stocks fall below a 21 day supply. Kenosha official says no immediate action while local supply stands at 166 days, pending final coal settlement.
Veterans of Foreign Wars post 2751 will select a queen candidate at a May 29 dance at the Gold Chevron Memorial building. The winner represents the post in the Fourth of July Homecoming and receives nylon stockings. runner ups receive smaller prizes. Judges and delegates to the Wisconsin convention were named, and Buddy Poppy Day was planned for May 25.
In a regular session of the Price Panel of the Kenosha County Price Control Board on a Wednesday afternoon a series of hearings on alleged OPA pricing violations was held. A restaurant operator settled for 37.50 and a grocer for 25.00. Four cases were dismissed after district office reviews finding no violation for three grocers and a restaurateur.
Mrs. Anna Petito, 35, formerly of Kenosha, died Monday in Chicago. She was the daughter of Mrs. Carmella De Fazio of Kenosha and was born and raised there before moving to Chicago 20 years ago. She is survived by her mother and two daughters. she was preceded in death by her father, Rocoa.
Campbell Wood has been appointed works manager of Nash Kelvinator's Pacific coast plant at El Segundo California. The announcement was made by R A DeVlieg vice president manufacturing Nash Kelvinator in Detroit. Offices will open in Los Angeles soon and the plant near the Los Angeles airport was purchased from War Assets and built in 1944 for North American Aviation.
Rosa Staudenmayer 73 longtime Twin Lakes resort owner died Tuesday at her home. Survived by three daughters, two sons, a brother and many relatives. she was active in Holy Name church Wilmot and St Anne's Altar Society. Preceded by husband William and three children.
Martin Ferkin resigns as president of Federal Labor Union Local 18456 after refusing to reconsider despite a vote of confidence. An election to replace him will be held at the local headquarters with Friday and Saturday balloting. candidates include Vice-President Ira Ohmsted and Howard Colby. A census is noted in Warsaw and Lodz, Poland.

Kenosha will form the Co operative Homes of Kenosha Inc as a housing association under Wisconsin law. Members pay a $10 entry fee and buy six shares at $25 each to fund land, with homes financed by a 20 to 25 year loan and a down payment at occupancy. Anthony Valeo chairs the steering committee. Wage boosts approved for Machinists Local 34 at Helm Manufacturing and Frank L. Wells company. The Hosiery Workers of Branch Six AFL at Kenosha Full Fashioned Mills gain 18 percent with a new minimum of 66 1/2 cents per hour. retroactive adjustments include April 15 and April 29 dates.
Mrs. Anna Hanke 64 of four miles south of Wilmot died Wednesday at St. Theresa hospital Waukegan after a two month illness. Born near Burlington Racine county March 15 1882 she married William Hawke Oct 22 1903. Survived by husband two sons Harry Chicago August Lake Villa a daughter Elsie Glassman Salem five brothers and three sisters. Uganda plans a hospital for 1000 patients and a nursing training school for 700.
Conservation Warden Allan Galston traveled to the state game farm at Poynette to secure a truckload of mature pheasants for release in the county. He arranged with Sheriff Milton LaViolette to assemble conservationists to assist in the afternoon release across all townships. The aim is to boost the adult population and create a new stock that will produce additional young birds before fall.
Kenosha County AAA chairman Frank M. Fox warned local dairymen that the deadline to file for dairy feed payments for January February and March is May 31. Payments for milk and butter sales are 60 cents per hundredweight and 17 cents per pound respectively. applications must be filed before the deadline.
