Secretary Brucker announced a new Army anti aircraft radar Nike defense network dubbed missile master. The system, deployed around Washington and Baltimore, can detect aircraft and missiles and coordinate Nike firings, operating with or alongside the Sage Air Force defenses.
Seoul reports President Syngman Rhee will run again after the Public Information Office issued a statement saying he conceded to popular will. The 80 year old leader, nominated March 5 by the Liberal party, said he wished to retire but hinted he could be drafted.
In South Bend Indiana eleven year old Phyllis Ann Bays of Walkerton was ordered to report for jury duty but officials realized the summons was a mistake and sent her back to school.
The Senate finance committee unanimously approved a House bill to extend corporate income and selected excise taxes at current rates for another year. Secretary Dulles told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee he found a wealth of friendship for the United States in South Korea and no policy differences with Japan. A two year contract between the Building Service Employees union and Madison General Hospital averts a strike threat. Gov Kohler said no referendums on federal social security for teachers until a legislative interim committee studies the issue and the 1957 legislature can review findings.
The Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. was found guilty of violating Alabama's anti boycott law and fined 500 dollars, suspended pending appeal. He vowed to continue leading the movement for justice and equality despite the conviction, with costs and an equivalent jail term tied to the appeal.
A 6 year old boy drowned Thursday in Hebron Mill Pond at Fort Atkinson after falling from an ice shelf while trying to retrieve a rubber ball. The body was recovered.
