Twisted wreckage and parachute draped bodies scatter a corn field after a C-119 from Bolling Air Force Base crashes 19 miles south of Annapolis. All 18 aboard, mostly U S military, are confirmed dead as investigators inspect the scene.
An air force B 26 bomber crashed in a swamp near Amelia Virginia killing four crew members. The aircraft was en route from Vance Air Base Enid Oklahoma to Langley Field Virginia. Investigators and local officials described extensive wreckage and uncertainty about the fate of the other crew.
Harry Rozak, 19, of Knowlton was released from Marathon county jail pending an inquest into the death of his father Frank, 48, after a family quarrel over a loaded shotgun. District Attorney Robert C. Altman said the inquest will be held Tuesday. The men wrestled the gun during a drunken confrontation that ended with Frank Rozak’s death.
Israeli Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett described a border raid that killed 11 Israelis as a carefully planned methodically executed military operation and blamed Jordanian authorities for condoning the crime.
In Portland Oregon police hunted a gunman who tried to kidnap Georgie Brice nine from Catlin Hillside School. A teacher Manuel Schauffler intervened,taking a bullet to the finger as the suspect fled after a struggle. The Brice family faced a wider threat including the boy’s sister Beverly twelve.
Milwaukee lawmakers and party officials sat with Senator Joseph R. McCarthy as he defended his charges that the Republican party was split between McCarthy and Eisenhower during a reply to Adlai Stevenson in Miami Florida. The scene included state treasurer Warren Smith Lt Gov George Smith Wisconsin GOP leaders and Young Republican officials.
President Eisenhower met for an hour with Defense Secretary Wilson, Secretary of State Dulles, and Admiral Radford to discuss the critical Indo Chinese situation. Jerome Richard Otto aged 21 of Kenosha died in a St. Louis hospital after injuries from an auto accident near Cuba Missouri three hours earlier. His wife Carol Irene Whitefoot escaped with minor injuries. The couple married last Saturday at St Marys Lutheran church with a reception for 300 at Simmons clubhouse. Otto, born July 17 1933 in Kenosha, worked for Nash Motors. He is survived by his widow his parents and three siblings.

Hanoi reports bombardment by French forces on Dien Bien Phu as Vietminh troops dig in near the fortress. The 120th day of siege sees minor clashes while Vietminh artillery continues to shell the 24 square mile French stronghold in the Thai frontier region near Red China.
Evanston based former Formosa governor Wu asserts Western powers are awed by Red China’s strength and overlook its weaknesses. He outlines six major faults including industrial lag, supply lines, inland transport, coast length, and political discontent with the Communist regime. Beulah Olson, 38, an Amherst tavern operator, said she was married to Olson for three years. Nyla Olson of Wausau presented a marriage certificate showing a Pine City Minnesota wedding on Aug 23. The plumber’s wife said her husband had been away from home recently.
Cold weather swept Wisconsin with morning readings from 28 to 31 degrees and a low near 29. Officials expected Miss Spring to enter at 9 54 pm but temperatures remained cooler. A high of 42 Friday gave way to 13 degrees at Superior as skies clear tonight and Sunday brings partial clouds and slightly warmer afternoon temperatures.
An 18 year old Chicago woman Elizabeth Pady and 22 year old Paul Hauser face federal charges for the 12500 dollar Almena bank holdup in Barron County. They were arrested after a swift escape and a roadblock, with the bank manager Richard Neuer describing the robbery and capture.
Premier Mohammed Ali and his Moslem league suffered a crushing defeat as the United Front won 147 of 309 seats in East Bengal. The vote followed Pakistan's aid treaty with the United States and featured a strong push against American military aid. Independent and non Moslem seats total 72 with many undecided ones likely to swing to the opposition. Moulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani of Awami league denounced the aid program.

A U S air force plane with seven men aboard crash landed north of Thule air base in Greenland after signaling fuel exhaustion. The crew informed Thule by radio of the emergency and planned to land in rugged mountains north of the base. a search party was dispatched from Thule.
Madison, Wisconsin reports that HEAR Incorporated, an organization aiding deaf and hard of hearing residents, filed incorporation papers with the secretary of state on Friday.
Senator Joseph R. McCarthy, after illness, launched a blistering Milwaukee speech charging Democratic attacks and Adlai Stevenson with Communist methods. He listed 20 indictments against the party, argued Stevenson aided postwar Italy policy with Communists, and claimed a 1953 Communist pamphlet urged attacks on him while avoiding Eisenhower.
The Hsin Sheng Daily News urged France to win Dien Bien Phu or admit defeat and withdraw from Indo China. It warned there was no chance for an armistice with the Viet Minh and said Geneva would only yield a defeat pact if Dien Bien Phu fell.
