Spain's richest man Juan March dies at 81

Juan March, once Spain's wealthiest man and a key Franco backer, died early today at 81 after a long illness following a February automobile crash near Madrid. Born October 4, 1880 on Palma de Mallorca, he built a vast fortune from hog trading to shipping and smuggling, famously declaring banks were in his debt.

Two Vessels Still Missing In Atlantic Storm

United Press International reports two fishing trawlers remain unaccounted for after a fierce Atlantic storm. Ten people aboard the trawlers were lost at sea Wednesday night, with Coast Guard search operations centered from Point Pleasant, New Jersey, and Mayport, Florida. Rescue efforts saved three from a yawl and ashore 28 others from the Gem tanker incident near Jacksonville.

A vessel suffered an engine room flood about five miles off Dry Tortugas, west of Key West. The Esso Scranton rushed to assist, helping control the flooding and towing the stricken ship to safety.
