House leaders move the Senate version of President Eisenhower's Middle East resolution to the White House. Speaker Rayburn announced White House and State Department approval of the measure despite Senate changes. The Senate had passed the resolution 72 to 19.
House leaders agree to skip a compromise with Senate over a resolution against Russian aggression in the Middle East. The measure, approved by the House Jan 30, would authorize up to 200 million dollars in military economic aid and give the President broader powers through July 1. Final Senate roll showed 30 Democrats and 42 Republicans for the bill, with 16 Democrats joining three Republicans in opposition.

Alfred Bale, a 66 year old plant engineer, warned of a ruptured gas main and opened windows to vent gas after a boiler room explosion at St Catherine’s hospital. The blast damaged the laundry building, toppled part of the smokestack, and sent debris into the hospital as three nuns and 11 others were shaken but unharmed. Bale, injured with burns to face hands and scalp, helped evacuate and a mobile boiler rig arrived later as emergency crews contained the scene.
