The board approved plans for Sunny side and Forest Park Elementary Schools and authorized advertising for bids. Sunnyside bids due July 18 at 7 30 p.m. Forest Park bids due Aug 1 at 7 30 p.m. A two week gap aims to attract more bidders and allow a possible combination bid.
Fair weather continues in Kenosha through tonight and Thursday as the weatherman reports mild conditions. Tonight’s low around 50 to 56, Thursday’s high near 75 to 80, with a sunny stretch after 11 days of rain and daytime readings around the city from 66 at the treatment plant to 74 at American Motors.
A section of Union Pacific Los Angeles Challenger derailed about six miles east of Fort Morgan Colorado. One dead, at least five seriously injured with others lightly hurt as cars toppled into swollen South Platte River. Coroner identifies victim as George F Jobusch Jr of Sandy Utah.

Oshkosh man Edward H. Telleck, 60, died Tuesday from injuries after his gravel truck overturned on June 7 in Oshkosh. The accident occurred in the city, authorities said.
A three day exercise named Operation Alert 1955 simulated a historic atomic warning to President Eisenhower and 15 000 officials. The test assessed how the executive branch would function with three hours twenty minutes notice and rapid relocation to emergency centers. Black River Falls Wisconsin reports a 26 year old La Crosse student pilot Dick Hastings suffered minor injuries when his aircraft struck telephone wires and crashed during approach to the local airport. Dr. Robert Krohn said Hastings crawled from the wreckage unaided and is in good condition with a small concussion and facial lacerations.
Kenosha children will receive second polio shots at city health department clinics next week. In the first round 3 444 children were inoculated with the Salk vaccine, 92 percent of eligible youngsters, with no reactions reported by Dr. F E Bertolaet.
Kenosha marks Operation Alert with a simulated plan to defend against attacks on Chicago and Milwaukee. Civil defense leaders meet at 4 p.m. in the sheriff's department basement to outline refugee care, feeding and medical provisions, with Red Cross and police, hospitals, welfare and public health agencies involved. Air raid sirens were tested earlier in the day.
