End Dock Strike in Chicago Ends After 15 Days

The AFL Chicago longshoremen’s 15 day strike ended as union and dock company officials agreed on a two year contract. The walkout had effectively shut the Port of Chicago and caused about three million dollars in weekly losses. The deal retroactive to May 16 grants Local 19 members a five cent per hour wage increase and a seven cent per hour contribution per worker to a welfare fund.
