Boy Cyclist Struck by Car Near 63rd and Sheridan

A 10-year-old boy riding home for lunch collided with an automobile driven by Clayton E. Dreideldis at the 63rd Street Sheridan Road intersection. The cyclist, Jeffrey Rhey, was dragged 29 feet and is in Kenosha hospital with multiple injuries including possible internal trauma and fractures. he is the son of Willard C. and Mrs. Rhey.

Virus theory of cancer gains Nobel laureate support

Dr. Wendell M. Stanley, a Nobel Prize winner and UC virologist, said viruses may cause most cancers and urged a new battle plan against cancer. He suggested vaccines and cures could follow, noting cancer itself is not contagious and factors like aging hormones diet and radiation could activate dormant cancer viruses. The third National Cancer Conference in Washington drew 1200 physicians and researchers from the U.S. and 23 foreign countries.

Saar valley to rejoin West Germany under new accord

French Premier Guy Mollet and West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer agreed on a three year transition plan for the Saar. If the treaty takes effect the Saar will become German on January 1, 1957 with a three year economic reattachment period and continued French coal rights.
