Tokyo reports that 500 uniformed police entered the Japanese Senate to halt a Socialist attempt to block a school bill. Two Socialists suffered mild strokes and 12 guards were injured as riots erupted after filibustering and a ruckus over abolishing popular elections for school boards.
French forces press a major assault in the Biban Mountains near Bougie to crush a large Algerian rebel group in the triangle of the Gates of Iron. Rebels suffer heavy losses as Paris debates Premier Mollet policies with a confidence vote planned for Tuesday.
In Atlanta a brutal payroll robbery slaying targets secretary Inez Johnson 30 at Ingram Mantel and Tile Co. Investigators link a $2,400 payroll theft to the crime as detectives pursue a suspect described as a Negro man who asked for work and visited the firm before noon. The victim leaves behind a 10-year-old son.
Salzburg, Austria. Harry S. Truman told reporters at a press conference in a 950 year old inn that if Republicans dig up dirt about the Democrats this year, they will meet them halfway. He called recent campaigns the roughest and dirtiest he had faced, blaming Republicans for digging up the dirt.
The House Agriculture Committee voted Friday to liberalize the direct loan programs of the Farmers Home Administration, aiming to broaden eligibility and ease access for farmers.
Wisconsin rules that laid off General Motors workers may collect both state unemployment benefits and Supplemental Unemployment Benefits under the GM UAW contract. The State Industrial Commission said the arrangement lets employers fund the SUB through the trust without reducing state benefits. GM plants in Janesville and Milwaukee employ about 8,000 workers. SUB became available as the contract’s layoff benefits clause took effect.
Mrs. Caroline Rhodes aged 73 of Neenah suffered fatal burns when her clothing caught fire while burning trash in a garage at her home. She died Friday from the injuries.
Wisconsin's traffic death toll rose to 329 with a second death from a car train crash near Superior. Eugene Castonguay 22 Hawthorne died from injuries after his car struck a freight train. Leland Burjean 30 Hawthorne died at the scene. James Cadotte 21 Hawthorne held in fair condition. Nearby Edgerton motorcycle auto crash killed 18 Owen Mathews. passenger Mrs. Edgar Bjerke slightly hurt. Duane Christenson 63 Walworth died in a truck car collision on U S 14. Toll up 29 over last year though May toll down from last year.
Ex Foreign Minister Molotov is said to be ousted as Tito arrives in Moscow signaling a shift in Soviet foreign policy. Dmitri Shepilov succeeds Molotov as foreign minister while Bulganin and Khrushchev drive policy with less restraint. Diplomats foresee strengthened peaceful coexistence with the West and a diminished Molotov influence.
Senate investigators have begun inquiring into law clients of California Republican leader Murray M. Chotiner to uncover how he earned his fees. Chotiner, a Nixon 1952 campaign manager, has urged a forthcoming statement and claims the inquiry is politically motivated and outside its graft in military contracts focus.
Britain debated at the United Nations whether to water down the Palestine resolution pending in the Security Council as Arab pressure mounted. The draft policy followed a joint declaration on Middle East by Britain and the Soviet Union that was criticized by both sides.

Yesterday’s high at the sewage plant was 54, with a 38 low. This morning the plant read 52, and readings of 50 at American Motors and 49 downtown.
Marine Corps drill instructor S Sgt Matthew B McKeon 31 at Parris Island South Carolina has been released from confinement. He faces a manslaughter charge in the drowning deaths of six recruits during a disciplinary march and was reportedly under the influence of liquor. The court martial slated for May 14 is postponed to July 14.
Ilino Giordani, former Rome Catholic Action Newspaper director, says Adolf Hitler pressed Pope Pius XII to relocate to Germany. The Pope allegedly blocked the plan with a firm refusal.
Western Union workers remained at work today while negotiations resume Monday for new labor contracts. The delaying action ends temporary walkout and keeps services running.
Greek Cypriots bombed the U S consular official John Meehan home in Nicosia injuring no one. The attack comes amid Cyprus tensions as EOKA is said to turn against Americans, with Meehan and his family shaken but unhurt. Meehan works at the U S monitoring station attached to the consulate.
Fitchburg Massachusetts quick action by a policeman and Paul Christiani of the Christiani Bros Circus saved hundreds from injury when a miniature tornado toppled a side show tent. Thirteen people were trapped and injured as the canopy collapsed after 2 500 spectators had left. The big top stayed down with trucks as extra ties held, but the sideshow tent lacked protection. A 50 pound cheetah broke its leash but retreated to its cage and a giraffe fled to a truck.
