A Kenosha citizens advisory committee recommends a $600 across the board increase in the present teachers salary schedule effective January 1, 1956. The report cites wage competition with accountants engineers and dietitians and suggests funding from the budget or a higher tax levy.
Talks between Kohler Co and the CIO UAW under federal mediation continued with a two hour and 15 minute session and a planned 2 p.m. resumption. Robert Moore of the U S Mediation Service said both sides remained hopeful of settlement after a 15 month stalemate. Re-employment of 2200 striking workers remains a major issue and no formal concessions were reported.
National guardsmen and a Civil Air Patrol plane joined a Wednesday search for 72 year old Joseph Biljan of West Allis missing from his Priest river area cabin ten miles north of Phillips Wisconsin. His family reported him missing Tuesday after he left the cabin before breakfast.

In the Aures Mountains a 140 man French Foreign Legion unit fought free from a rebel ambush by the Army of God. One quarter of the force was killed or wounded as the unit delivered supplies to isolated outposts and reported ongoing fighting. Rebels suffered heavy losses including their chief and lieutenant.
