An American B-29 of three planes attempting a round the world flight crashed into the sea off Aden after takeoff from the south Arabia port. One survivor, Sgt Gustafason, was rescued and treated at RAF hospital. two planes returned to Aden. The crash occurred about a mile offshore with no bodies found. The flight departed Tucson six days earlier for long distance over water training.
Princeton Indiana reports a fatal blast at King's coal mine as inspectors seek cause. Two workers were critically injured, a rescue worker survived. bodies recovered from the mine's deepest loading unit three miles east of the tipple. The mine had reopened after water seepage and prior fires.
County Clerk John C Niederprim reports three contests in the September 21 primary two Republican and one Democratic. Republican races include sheriff with five filings and Second District assembly. Democratic race is county clerk with Richard H Lindgren challenging Niederprim.
Police Chief Stanley G. Haukedah announced a new five day warning ticket system to reduce crashes. Night shift officers will issue duplicate warning tickets for 14 minor equipment violations and require repair proof to be sent to police headquarters within five days.
