Vice President Barkley said he had a swell time during a Sunday plane layover in St Louis for lunch with Mrs Carleton S Hadley a widow whose railroad attorney husband died in 1945. He noted no improper conduct and was en route to Washington from Minneapolis.

George Froman a 69 year old retired railroad worker jailed on second degree murder charges for killing his landlady Mrs Molly Fritz hanged himself using a rope fashioned from the ticking of his mattress in his jail cell shortly after hearing the charge.
United States Steel Corp reports net income of 44.12 million in the second quarter, down from 49.93 million in the first quarter of 1949. The report was issued today in New York.
J H M Clinch becomes president and Fredrick C Worden general manager of Kenosha Motor Coach Company and six associated lines. Clinch remains chairman. Worden takes full operational control across all lines after a Chicago board meeting. Worden, formerly with Waukegan Chicago Transit, pledged a new deal in council relations and system revamp.
Mexican American youngsters were allowed to swim again at Fond du Lac County park pool after the parks committee lifted custodian Seymour Patrick's ban and declared no discrimination. Patrick resigned after the 3.5 hour session, saying he quit on doctor's orders.
The University of Wisconsin Madison announced the appointment of Dr. Robert C. Parkin as director of postgraduate training in the medical school. He will succeed the late Dr. Llewellyn Cole.
Russell Bud Higby Jr., 23, a Stockton private pilot, flew at low levels over the city then dived into a rural cemetery where his wife Beverly is buried. He disintegrated on impact, died 85 feet from the wreckage, in a crisis cited as despondency over her death amid a push by deputies to arrest him. He left Orange Brothers airport around 5 p.m. with two young daughters and was survived by his parents and brother in the produce business.
