Plank Pierced Driver In Yakima Car Crash
Allen E. Hobson a 24 year old racing driver from Cornelius Ore was seriously injured when his car plunged through a fence at the central Washington fairgrounds. A splintered 10 foot length of a 2 by 6 plank drove through his left abdomen and rammed seven feet through his body. Four doctors removed more than four feet of the plank from each side and he remained conscious joking with bystanders as surgeons fought to save him. His condition was reported critical early today.

Wild motorcycle chase ends in death in Kenosha County
A wild chase involving three motorcyclists and a carful of youths at Twin Lakes beach ended Sunday with Forrest Smith Jr. 21 of North Chicago killed when his bike hit an embankment after failing a curve. Smith, Celesnik, and Mattson were joined by three youths and three girls in a convertible before the fatal crash. Eight other county accidents injured five people, including Ruth and Margaret Richards and Marilyn Pikul, with incidents at Highway 50, County Trunk B and other local roads.

Plan to petition for improved downtown street lighting
The Chamber of Commerce will circulate petitions in August or early September among downtown and west side merchants and property owners to back a new street illumination system. Slaying Suspect Sought After Nordbeck Murder
Emil A. Nordbeck, 43, Phoenix Chair comptroller of Sheboygan, was found shot in his car at Stiles Junction Wisconsin. A dark complexioned hitchhiker about 20 with a white T shirt and blue overalls was seen riding with him near Iron Mountain and Crystal Falls Michigan and was noted to plan a trip to Antigo. Nordbeck often picked up hitchhikers on trips from West Allis to Sheboygan and was en route to Dollar Bay Michigan to join his wife and 11 year old son for vacation.
