21 Hurt In Wreck Of Santa Fe Chief In Carrollton

A steel bar on the tracks flipped the Santa Fe San Francisco Chief off the rails near Carrollton Missouri Sunday night injuring 21. Nineteen were admitted to three area hospitals, one in critical condition. Firemen, townspeople, and a rescue train aided victims as crews described a V bar likely dropped from a freight train and train speed about 50 mph.

Two Ships Collide Off Ambrose Lightship

Dense fog caused a collision 342 miles south of Ambrose Lightship in the Atlantic. The Fairisle suffered engine room flooding and a starboard list while San Jose II anchored nearby. A Coast Guard boat ashore seven passengers and 32 crew members. Two injured were Charles Schooley and Sidney Brown treated at Stapleton Hospital.

Youth, 16, Shot In Police Chase

A 16 year old boy was accidentally wounded after fleeing from Milwaukee police who spotted him exiting a service station. He underwent surgery for a abdominal bullet and was listed in fair condition at Milwaukee County General. Officers Moe and Heder fired warning shots and a ricochet struck the youth.
