A 75 foot police radio tower reported missing was found in a ditch behind the county highway garage on West 60th Street. County officials debate authority and owners as investigators probe how the tower vanished and a shed was found on private property.
President Truman said Maj. Gen. Harry Vaughan may testify if called by the Senate committee probing government contract influence. Sen. Hoey notes Vaughan could be asked. Mundt and Shafer urge actions, amid suspensions of two two star generals and questions about Vaughan's contacts in Washington.
Enock David Molgaard surrender his driver’s license for a year in lieu of paying 150.60 in fines and costs or serving 195 days in county jail on three traffic charges reckless driving speeding and arterial violations. He was arrested after a chase through downtown and uptown areas at speeds up to 60 mph ending when his car disappeared into an alley.
Weatherman H J Thompson reports thundershowers across Wisconsin with temperatures dipping to 55 in the north and 65 in the south. Yesterday high 88 at Prairie du Chien and 55 at Land o Lakes. Rainfall scattered with Prairie du Chien at 1.08 inches and Kenosha 0.21. Tomorrow clears and cools. Noon reading 78 in Kenosha.
Los Angeles police and other agencies tightened security around Mickey Cohen at Queen of Angels hospital after an anonymous call warned of a new attempt to kill him. Cohen and three companions were shot on the Sunset Strip as a grand jury probe into the underworld moved toward indictment. A sedan halted outside the hospital later, with four men and a woman fleeing past guards.
Thomas W. Melham of Milwaukee was elected imperial captain of the guard at yesterday's election session of the Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine in Chicago.
The Senate discusses last minute reservations aimed at barring atom bomb shipments to NATO allies. Senator Vandenberg warns such reservations would wreck the treaty while leaders push toward ratification. Debate centers on arms supply obligations and atomic information access.

President Truman said he will name a successor to the late Supreme Court Justice Frank Murphy as soon as possible but offered no hint on who might receive the post. He answered with a terse no comment when asked if the new justice would be a Roman Catholic. Murphy was the only Catholic on the court. Truman noted most federal judges have received endorsements for the appointment.
Edward Gallion 35 of Eugene Oregon claimed a $100,000 inheritance should cover checks he wrote to aid friends. Police said his bank balance was only $1.50 in Oregon. He pled guilty in municipal court to passing bogus checks, with multiple bounced gifts across Wisconsin and Missouri. Investigators plan further charges as complaints pour in.
Peter J. Ludwig, 79, of Brist ol, was killed today in a collision with a semi at the Highway 41 Bullamore Forks Road intersection. Fred J. Padovich, 38, Joliet, Ill, driving south in northbound lanes, swerved too late. Deputies report Ludwig died at the scene. the year’s county toll reaches ten traffic fatalities.
President Truman said secret discussions on atomic energy policy are not alarming and described last Thursday's Blair House conference as relatively unimportant. He criticized a participant for leaking details to the press before the meeting and pledged future off the record talks while denying deep secrets were involved.

Robert W. Allen, 65, a Kenosha pioneer scion and former head of the Allen A company, died after a three week illness at Little Traverse hospital Petoskey Michigan. Born October 8 1883 in Kenosha he built business interests there then retired after selling his companies in 1937 and 1938. He was known for early automatic machinery in textiles and an automotive speed project involving a Duesenberg setup that reached 140 mph with a supercharged design and solid silver bearings.
Joseph D. McCallister, 34, formerly of Hammond Indiana, died of malnutrition after a 104 day fasting period begun at his trailer home. He reportedly fasted because the Lord told him not to eat and passed away at his mother’s Chrisman residence.
Snelling admits using Red Cross funds to pay personal debts after being charged with embezzlement. He was flown to Santa Fe from Dallas, ending a weeklong disappearance by walking into the FBI office.
