Centennial Picnics Draw 4500 at Petrifying Springs and Fox River Parks
More than 4500 residents attended two county Centennial picnics held Saturday with about 3000 from Bristol Paris Pleasant Prairie and Somers at Petrifying Springs Park for the eastern county and over 1500 at Fox River Park for the western end. Roger Gerling traced the state history from 1634 as part of the program. Parade float winners were listed by Earl Yule with Somers Birthday Cake taking decorative honors and a line of 4 H and Scout groups earning prizes. Community speakers included Paul Burgess George Mahoney and Mrs Mary Benson representing their townships. The event closed with a 100-voice Centennial chorus.

A 75 pound thirteen year old boy James Komarec from Forty third street rescued Cleveland Pate a 24 year old man from drowning in Pike creek near Lake Michigan. James swam to Pate after hearing cries with help from two unidentified men they pulled Pate from the water and he survived with artificial respiration at St Catherine's hospital.
