Madison Wisconsin. First copies of the 1952 Wisconsin Blue Book have begun arriving per state legislative reference library chief M G Toepel. A total of 45 000 copies will be distributed to legislators with public sale copies expected soon.
Vice President Alben Barkley arrived in Chicago and walked seven blocks from the station to his hotel amid cheering admirers and reporters. The 74-year-old Democrat predicted victory and noted discussions with President Truman while dodging questions about his convention support.
President Truman signed a bill authorizing the interior department to pay the Shoshone and Arapaho tribes up to 480000 dollars for lands needed for the Boysen dam in Fremont county Wyoming.

Marinette, Wis. Anton Walters about 75 died early today when a rural one story house and attached garage were destroyed by fire. Coroner Robert Thompson said Walters was found partly inside the house and partly in the garage and may have been attempting to reach his car when he died.

The Pullman company won permission to raise its minimum charge for sleeping car accommodations by about 23 percent. The U S justice department announces criminal and civil actions against seven oil firms including Standard Oil of New Jersey California Texas Oil Socony Vacuum Gulf Oil and two British dominated concerns Royal Dutch Shell and Anglo Iranian Oil in a probe into an international oil cartel. The case targets past offenses and aims to prevent future illegal restraints. A SPC spokesperson for Standard Oil of California defends the group’s conduct as lawful.
Chicago U P Nancy Kefauver said her son David has taken a fighting interest in his father's campaign. She recounted a Washington neighborhood mother who said her son quit wearing an I Like Ike button because he was tired of being knocked down by David.
Truce teams reopened talks in Panmunjom Korea with a secrecy pact hiding whether the Communists offered a compromise to break the prisoner exchange deadlock. Brig. Gen. Herbert C. Holdridge, a self appointed candidate for president, disrupted the Democratic credentials sub committee meeting. He demanded to be heard on charges that Sen. Estes Kefauver cheated him in California and rushed the proceedings with cameras present. Chairman Calvin W. Rawlings ruled him out of order and said the case would be heard later.
President Truman appoints Walter J. Donnelly as U S high commissioner for Germany to succeed John J. McCloy with Llewellyn E. Thompson Jr named to Austria. Both receive recess appointments and McCloy resigns effective Aug 1 after aiding West German peace talks and NATO treaty extensions.
India Edwards vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee opens a formal campaign HQ in the Conrad Hilton hotel with volunteers typing press releases answering phones and planning a later formal opening. Born in Chicago and raised in St Louis she worked 22 years at the Chicago Tribune and was recruited into Democratic labor after hearing Mrs. Luce’s 1944 Republican convention speech.
