John P. McEnery, vice chair of the California Democratic central committee, announced plans to pressure the California delegation to withdraw James Roosevelt as national committee man designate. The move follows Roosevelt's role in the stop Truman drive despite California pledges to Truman and Eisenhower backing. Roosevelt, eldest son of Franklin D. Roosevelt, faces delegation-led guidance on his future actions.
Tanjug reports twenty people killed in a south Yugoslavia train wreck. The victims were traveling home from Albania and include a number of unnamed passengers.

Bernadotte met Arab leaders in Amman amid shifting Jordanian support and ongoing opposition from both sides to his cease fire proposals.

Foreign Minister Moshe Shertok announced in Tel Aviv that Israel accepts the 10 day ceasefire proposal from UN mediator Count Folke Bernadotte. The acceptance was reported to Secretary-General Trygve Lie by Aubrey S. Eban. Israel will issue ceasefire orders once Arab acceptance is confirmed.

At 6 p.m. Friday George Ebner reported 17 garage windows broken and a bicycle stolen from his home at 5530 Thirty-seventh Avenue. Nine panes measured 12 by 18 inches, seven were 8 by 10, and one was 8 by 20. At 9:30 p.m. the father of a seven year old boy told police his son and two other children damaged the property, took the bicycle, and opened the mail. Parents will restitution for the damage. The bicycle was recovered and officers lectured the youngsters on tampering with mail.
Antonio Gomez and Terseo Torres are being held for questioning after a late night fight in which Gomez was stabbed. Deputies Molinaro and Wallace report conflicting statements. Gomez says Torres stopped on a gravel road and stabbed him after meeting at a tavern. Torres claims Gomez ordered a stop and began the fight. Both men, Nash-Kelvinator employees, deny ownership of the missing wallet keys and knife.
A New York subcommittee plans to cite nine CIO Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union officials for contempt of congress over refusals to reveal Communist associations. Rep. Charles J. Kersten announced the move after three days of hearings. Arthur Osman, head of local 65, was forcibly removed after signaling protest. Samuel Wolchok defended the union, saying 99 percent of its 150,000 members are loyal Americans.
American and British commanders cancelled leaves for all personnel in blockaded Berlin as Soviet rules demand approval for western allied traffic. Maj. Gen. George P. Hays rejected submission to the restrictions while noting no official Soviet notice. Washington protested alongside Britain and France as the crisis over access to Berlin deepens.
