Washington reports a settlement between three strike threatening unions and rail carriers after White House talks. The agreement includes a retroactive pay raise, 16 operating rule changes, and a path to end army control. Further wage demands by 1,250,000 railroad workers loom, with a September start for new talks.
Kenosha city moves to clear the lake front between Thirty eighth and Forty-fifth streets after a petition by 163 residents. Fire department to burn brush while roads are barricaded and heavy equipment begins Monday. dumping now banned except at Twenty-second avenue and Forty-first street with incineration and nonflammable waste rules.
