Sandra Joan Benson five year old daughter of Mrs Esther Benson Milwaukee drowned in the Juneau Park Lagoon when a boat with the child mother and an unidentified man capsized as the mother stood up. Coast Guard searchers recovered the body about thirty minutes later. The child was dead on arrival at a hospital.
A phantom distress tale about the Blue Star 40 foot fishing boat sparked a night long radio drama. The Coast Guard searched coastal waters after reports of a submarine surfacing to take survivors, but only an unmarked life jacket was found and no vessel.
