The Senate Education committee introduced a bill to raise state school aid to localities by 30 million dollars over the next two years. In the Assembly, Arthur Crowns of Wisconsin Rapids proposed a separate bill requiring applicants for driver licenses to demonstrate first aid knowledge.
Supreme Court Justice Stanley Reed, age 72, will retire Feb 25 after 19 years on the high court. President Eisenhower approved the move, paving the way for a fourth appointment. Reed had been appointed by Franklin D. Roosevelt and spoke of his long public service in a hand written letter dated today.
Secretary of State Dulles met with King Saud in Washington as part of a three day visit to seek Saudi support to ease the Middle East crisis. Eisenhower hosted a formal White House dinner for Saud with 58 guests including bankers and oil executives.
