Kenosha Evening News carriers canvassed the city in cold weather and raised 6442.15 for the March of Dimes, up from last year. They collected 32465 coins weighing 316 pounds, totaling 17671 to date against a 35000 goal. Receipts include radio auction, basketball game, square dance, coin envelopes.
Betty Skelton Lyman Daniel Lyman Ij ails Roy Bannister of Detroit motor companies led 1200 drivers at Pine Lake in a National Safety Council winter driving safety demo. The test measured braking distances from 20 mph: regular tires 192 to 223 feet, snow mud tires 181 to 209 feet, reinforced tire chains 77 feet.
Mrs. Anna Dischler, 78, was killed while crossing a Sauk City street on her way to church when struck by a truck today.
Kenosha Taxpayers Inc. met at the Elks Club urging residents to study the serious state financial situation. A captured Communist guerrilla, Kim Chong Ha, admitted to killing 168 people in about 44 years in South Korea, including two American soldiers. Police said most killings occurred early in the Korean War.
Army doctor Maj. Alexander Boysen testified Nugent spoke to 350 to 400 fellow prisoners at a Korea POW camp about a peace rally. Nugent faces 13 counts of collaborating with the enemy and one for organizing peace committees. He is a 44 year old officer from Merrill Wisconsin.

He did not name danger areas, noted budget cuts, and said the Army remains part of a national defense team addressing long term plans and training improvements.

About 35 000 CARE food packages provided by the American people were turned over in Naples to Italy's two non Communist trade unions for distribution to the nation's poor.
Senator Joseph R. McCarthy of Wisconsin will purchase the old family homestead at Grand Chute from his brother Howard. The move confirms plans to secure the family property in the region.
The cold wave pushed temperatures down to near zero at the sewage treatment plant while downtown and American Motors hit 26 and higher. Noon readings ranged up to 26, with a Sunday low of 4 and a high of 16 at the plant. Forecast calls for cloudy, milder tonight with a low of 15 to 22 and Tuesday’s cloudy outlook with a chance of snow and a high of 25 to 30.
Gen William M Hoge retires in Mannheim Germany after 42 years in the U S Army and tells his European command troops they are in a stronger and better position for world defense. He is succeeded by Lt Gen Anthony C Mc Auliffe.
Edward L. Cushman and Leonard Woodcock announced a pact giving Hudson workers priority for jobs at AMC plants in Wisconsin after regulars are recalled by seniority. Hudson recalls underway in Kenosha with Milwaukee to follow. Eligible workers must reply by March 15 1955 and report within six days to assigned plant. Seniority rules and probationary ranks to be determined with the union.
Communist forces shelled Tachens and Yikiangshan writeups say 22 rounds in 10 minutes as the U S 7th Fleet weighs evacuation orders. Adm. Stump says no evacuation yet while Nationalists report redeployment plans for Quemoy and Matsu amid offshore island fighting.
