Court Act on Natural Gas Cases Rejected Pyramiding Suit

The U S Supreme Court acted on two Federal Power Commission gas rate cases. It agreed to decide if the FPC may order rate cuts during hearings and refused to hear a challenge to rate pyramiding. The decision leaves in place a ruling that the FPC cannot halt pyramiding under current law. The court also dismissed a loyalty oath challenge by University of Washington professors Nostrand and Lavelle and agreed to review a lower court ruling against movie distributors in an antitrust matter. The case involves Willmot Gas & Oil Co of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, purchasing gas from United Gas Pipe Line Co of Shreveport, Louisiana.

Reopen Plans At Southern University In Baton Rouge

Southern University officials prepared for a February reopening of the Negro university after disruptions. Notices were sent to 4,900 students as registration for the delayed second semester was set for January 29 to February 3. The term had been postponed after President Felton Clark closed the campus due to anti segregation protests led by Southern students. Seven student leaders were barred from the term. All students must reapply for admission to weed out troublemakers.

Wisconsin Governor vetoes presidential primary reform bill

Gov. Gaylord Nelson vetoed a bill changing Wisconsin's 44 year old presidential preference primary. The measure would select delegates by party line, ending delegation splits, with delegates bound only for the first ballot. Nelson warned it favors party organization over public will.

Five Related Tots Die In St Louis Home Fire

Five young children died and an adult was injured when a house fire swept a Wellston suburb home. The Jones children Ronald 2 Sandra 3 Regina 2 Donald 2 and Sylvania 7 from three related families were named by coroner Raymond Harris of St. Louis County.

Wisconsin highway toll rises to 35 with three deaths

Three people died in Wisconsin road incidents raising the 1962 toll to 35. Mrs. Agatha Van Pay, 51, was struck on Highway 141 in Preble. Allen C. Christianson, 26, and Elmer J. Bolstad, 23, perished in a Milwaukee Road train collision in Oconomowoc. Donald Boker, 38, died from January injuries in Baldwin.

Wisconsin Fires Claim Five Lives In Statewide Toll

Five persons died in Wisconsin fires since Friday including two elderly twin brothers near East Troy, a Milwaukee woodworker Alf Schwaller in his 60s, and Miss Mary Kristol 78 of Marinette.
