Veteran sea dog Salty a nine year old Purple Heart winner re joins naval life as mascot at Kenosha reserve training center on Simmons Island owned by Lt. E A Ruebel. The Bosun s Mate 1/c was brought aboard in 1943 on a Liberty ship from Oakland California and survived a fish hook incident at Hollandia New Guinea before earning a reputation for punctual chow times and ship board discipline.

War Hero's Body Arrives Today in Kenosha
The remains of Cpl. Guenther Manthei born in Berlin February 1 1919 and died in France March 21 1945 arrive this afternoon from the Chicago graves distribution center. He earned the Silver Star Purple Heart Soldier's Medal and Good Conduct and is survived by his parents a son in Los Angeles a daughter in Kenosha and a brother. The American Legion Post 429 will assist in military rites.
