City council reached a tentative agreement to allot the library board an additional 14000, with support pledged at city hall. The 1948 city budget allocates one mill of tax revenue, totaling 78991 dollars, to the library from the late 19th century endowment by Z G Simmons.

Janitor John Solencky miraculously survived after neighbor Robert Williams found him unresponsive in the greenhouse bedroom amid coal gas fumes. Rescue squads revived Solencky with artificial respiration and responders credited Williams’s quick action with saving his life. Forty prize canaries died from the gas. two cats survived.
Detroit police joined James C. Peterson in a search for a partly built seven room ranch home reported stolen from its foundations. The 38 year old veteran said he built the dream house himself and had completed part of the structure before a three week vacation. Neighbors said they saw no sign of dismantling.
