The Truculent, a British submarine, sank after a collision with the Swedish tanker Divina near Margate. Sixty-one died with 15 survivors, while 52 crew members remain missing. frogmen located a fully flooded wreck, confirming the disaster.

In Long Beach California a training plane crashed on a residential street killing the pilot Captain M. D. Dennison of Long Beach and co pilot 2nd Lt. C J Knee of Los Angeles. Three others were lightly injured. The pilot’s quick action kept the craft from striking nearby houses.

Nestor Blomquist, 54, of Negaunee was killed in a fall of ground at the Cambria-Jackson mine of Cleveland Cliffs Iron Co. He was underground trimming when the accident occurred. It marked the Marquette range's first mining fatality of the year.
Bridget Ann Taylor a 21 year old bride of three months was killed by her husband Thomas Taylor 28 after she returned home 15 minutes late from visiting her foster mother. Police said he surrendered and faced a homicide charge claiming insane jealousy and disbelief over delays by three trolleys.
