Youth Drowns As Car Plunges Through Ice On Silver Lake
Two 19 year old youths drove a 1935 car onto Silver Lake for about an hour despite warnings of thin ice. One, Jerald L. Roberts, drowned after slipping away from a rope while Edward Berndt was rescued after 20 minutes in the water. Berndt suffered shock and exposure and was taken to Kenosha hospital. Deputies responded to a 4 15 p m call and aided by local fishermen and the Boy Scout Rescue squad.
