Benjamin F. Fairless 71 longtime steel executive and former president of the American Iron and Steel Institute died at his home in Ligonier Pennsylvania. He rose from newsboy to head a steel empire and was known as a rugged defender of big business. He spent weeks in a Pittsburgh hospital for pleurisy and had recently divorced Hazel Hatfield after a prior marriage ended with his first wife Jane Truby's death.
