The 1949 outlook predicts a return to a buyers market with easier budgets for consumers. Prices may dip though labor costs stay high, possibly causing some plant shutdowns and job shifts, while large-scale layoffs are not expected.
The Public Service Commission denied Kenosha Motor Coach Co. an emergency fare increase and criticized the request as unreasonable and unlawful. The agency set the matter for a hearing while noting the company had cash and stock proceeds totaling about 182000 for new equipment, yet found no justification for higher fares.

Leonard J. Jensen names Milton F. LaViolette undersheriff for the 1949 50 term in Kenosha County. LaViolette, a 41 year veteran of the force, helped expand the department, advance radio gear, and oversee the Farina murder investigation with 24 hour guard and witness protection. Born in Oconomowoc, he came to Kenosha in 1916 and began as a deputy in 1925.
The Public Service Commission approved a rate increase for Prospect Guthrie and Big Bend Telephone Co. customers in Waukesha County. The hike ranges from 50 cents to $1.25 per month, effective soon.
