West Berlin travelers report a double barbed wire fence rising on both sides of a two mile Autobahn into West Berlin. Russian troops patrol the strip as East German police enforce a no-man's land amid border protests. Western powers plan new Berlin talks with the Soviet Union in three days.
In Monroe a racial clash erupted as police tried to stop a white integrationist from joining Negro anti segregations protesters. A white officer was shot during the melee as more than 50 people were arrested on riot incitement charges and a Black youth was charged with assault with intent to kill. A white couple held briefly as hostages was released unharmed. The city. Mayor Fred Wilson called an emergency session as 1,000 whites gathered downtown to jeer, harass police, and threaten more trouble.
Rio de Janeiro reports show military leaders under Gen Odylio Denys resisting a Goulart takeover as Vice President Joao Goulart, then en route from Red China, awaits word in Paris. Police and troops patrol key points nationwide, with limited open force.
Mrs Thom as O Meyer of Wayne Pennsylvania was installed Sunday as the new president of the National Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs to close the first annual convention. The 1962 convention will be held the last week in July at Miami Florida.

An explosion at a carnival popcorn stand in Odessa Washington Sunday destroyed by fire. Two people were killed and several others injured as a liquefied gas tank blew up and flames roared through the area.
Sixteen people perished in Wisconsin weekend crashes raising the yearly toll to 567 with many counties reporting fatalities. The list includes teens Glen Wittwer 17 and Jimmy Fennel 15 and multiple adults in separate two car and rollover accidents across Green County Lincoln County Richland and Milwaukee areas.
High temperatures continue in Kenosha through Tuesday with scattered thundershowers not cooling the heat. Tonight should be unsettled with isolated showers, and Tuesday brings more scattered storm chances. Temperatures reach 88 to 94 by Tuesday, with Monday’s sun and pollen hitting 288 for the weekend.
In Glen Haven Wisconsin Terry Sweeney 19 of Lancaster drowned Sunday night after aiding two friends to shore and returning to their capsized boat on the Mississippi River.
In Lyndon Station Wisconsin the last of three Chicago area gunmen was found Sunday in a swamp by bloodhounds. William Welter 23 was unarmed injured and exhausted after a six day flight. He and two companions Richard Nicks 28 and Lawrence Nutley 26 face first degree murder charges in the killing of Sauk County officer James Jantz 26. The trio’s capture ends Wisconsin’s large manhunt with Welter carrying $370 and surviving on berries and ice cream.
Madison reports the deaths of two UW faculty members. Don D Lescohier, 78, emeritus economics professor and long time staffer since 1918, died in a Madison hospital. John M Wright, 43, associate entomology professor, died after a heart attack while water skiing in northern Wisconsin. he joined Wisconsin in 1957.
A Navy F13 Fury crashed through the roof of Bargain City USA in Willow Grove Pennsylvania as it landed at the nearby naval air station. The pilot Lt Cmdr Robert Haven 36 of Columbus Ohio was killed and 30 to 35 others were injured. Firefighters contained the blaze and hospital reports listed the injured as released except one. Eyewitness accounts described a sudden crash and ensuing panic among shoppers and staff.
Gov. Gaylord Nelson signed a 50 million dollar 10 year program to preserve Wisconsin outdoor resources. The act directs 33 million for parks and forests, 9 million for fish and wildlife habitat, and 2.5 million for youth camps. Funding comes from a penny per pack cigarette tax starting Sept. 1, plus additional allocations for land easements lakes recreation areas and tourist centers.
A dump truck carrying ten primary school children and its driver plunged off a cliff near Mutsu in northern Japan. All aboard died in the crash, with rescuers and police at the scene investigating the cause.
A Milwaukee Army reserve unit has been called to active duty becoming the third Wisconsin unit mobilized. Company D of the 324th Army Security Battalion will likely be mobilized around Oct 1. Capt. Frank J. Seboth, its commander, received orders from Chicago. The unit includes six officers and 103 enlisted men mainly from Milwaukee with some from Waukesha and Racine counties.
