Prison riot quelled at Colorado Reformatory in Buena Vista
In Buena Vista Colorado a small guard team restrained a mob of about 100 inmates at the Colorado Reformatory on Tuesday night. One inmate died and two were gravely injured during the disturbance which began when Everesto Gomez 23 of Denver attacked guard Robert Alinger with a table leg. Governor McNichols ordered an investigation. Warden James Thomas said the outbreak was the first major incident at the facility during his 13 year tenure and blamed eight to nine ringleaders for the violence. The 380 inmates work on farm land amid harvest season and normal conditions had prevailed prior to the riot. He noted no prior warning signs of trouble.
