Milwaukee man John Ries 25 and a passing motorist rescued his wife and their three week old baby from a wrecked car seconds before it burst into flames. Ries slowed near a highway 41 inter section when another car struck him from behind. his car veered into a ditch and the other motorist helped free the woman and infant from the back seat basket.
In Jackson the Mississippi Democratic runoff pits former Gov. Hugh White against former assistant U. S. Attorney Paul B. Johnson Jr. The winner will secure a four year term succeeding Gov. Fielding Wright as the Democratic nomination equals election in the one party state.
Waukesha Wisconsin Kenosha Tees Service squad won the Wisconsin State Amateur Softball title after Madison Oscar Mayers forfeited the final for roster violations. Commissioner Wertz ruled six players acquired since season end violated tourney rules. The partly played title game ended amid the dispute.
A light plane crashed in the Vandalia business district today killing four occupants. The victims were J. R. Filer, his wife Elizabeth 30, and their two sons aged about 11 to 13. The family was from Yolo bh Camp Wood Arizona.
