The Senate Rackets Committee leveled a second blast of charges against Teamster President James R Hoffa accusing him of using union funds to pay a long standing debt to a Chicago underworld figure amid a broader probe into union finances and corruption.
Kenosha chamber members list 19 civic projects with a new west side senior high school leading the votes. The survey also foreshadows a broad critique of Hoffa linked to wealth transfers and corruption allegations, while other projects include street lighting and school construction.
A wild eyed survivor crawled from the Córdoba’s 115 degree hold five days from Havana after a deathly voyage with a stowaway companion who died of thirst. A 19 year old burglary suspect in Milwaukee shouted you can't shoot me when ordered to stop. Detective Charles Litman pursued and captured him after he attempted to pawn a watch. The watch matched a $685 burglary last week at a northside tavern.

Ellen grazed northern Okinawa and veered to sea avoiding dense U S military bases on the southern coast. U S Army and Marine officials reported no damage or deaths among service members.
The House Judiciary Committee approved a five point civil rights bill by a large margin. It incorporates most of Eisenhower’s recommendations but drops federal aid for desegregation in schools. The measure broadens federal power over education and voting records, criminalizes interference with desegregation orders, bans cross state flight to avoid bombing prosecutions, and extends the Civil Rights Commission to 1961.

A jet fighter interceptor of the Air National Guard crashed and exploded in Lake Michigan off Milwaukee's south shore. The F89B, normally manned by two, struck the water shortly before 1 p.m. and burned on the lake, according to the Coast Guard.
Memphis area man Elmer Nevils, 39, spent two hours practicing a duck call on his front lawn prompting neighbor calls to the sheriff. Deputies arrived and arrested Nevils for public drunkenness and disturbing the peace.
