Police Chief Shot By Insane Prisoner in Adairville
In Adairville Kentucky Chief of Police Rufus Barrow aged 60 was shot to death with his own pistol by Ed Burkes 29 an insane inmate. Burkes seized the weapon fired repeatedly then defied officers for over an hour before Capers Crumbaugh 45 maneuvered behind him and disarmed the prisoner.

Five Hurt in Suburban Train Collision in Chicago Area
Five persons were injured today in a collision between two Illinois Central suburban trains at Kensington station near 115th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue on the far south side. One train rammed the rear of the other while both were at the station.

Marine's Body To Be Returned From Chicago Distribution Center
The remains of Sgt. Howard E. Miller, former Brighton resident, will be returned to Kenosha Friday afternoon from the Chicago distribution center. Miller was killed in action on Guam August 4, 1944 while with a mechanized tank unit in the Third Marine Division. He was born October 8, 1920 in Kelly Lake Minnesota and moved to Wisconsin as a child. He attended Burlington High School and enlisted in the Marine Corps, training in California before serving in Bougainville and Guadalcanal. Survived by his mother Mrs. Iva Miller of Rhinelander, one brother Harold, three half-brothers Arthur, Emory O’Dell and Robert Myers, one sister Mrs. Charles Lambert and one half-sister Genevieve Myers.

Three Year Old Boy Rescued From Sewer Water
