An organizational meeting for baseball and softball is scheduled for April 15 at 7 30 p m in the city recreation offices. Managers must attend to receive contracts and league details. Four softball divisions are planned including senior, A 2, girls and slow pitch, with ball sizes 12 and 16 inches. baseball will play Sunday afternoons.
The Presbyterian church hosts the P.Y.C bowling league banquet to celebrate the league's fourth season. Gilbert Petzke presents the trophies to Presbyterian No 1 and Evangelical No 1. Dr. Thomas Luter of Milwaukee is guest speaker.
Gersonde rolled to a 717 three game series in the greater Milwaukee All-Star loop last night. He opened with 225 then 236 and 256 to secure the high mark.
Chicago White Sox manager Jimmy Dykes nearing recovery from abdominal surgery plans to return to Chicago next Monday not in time for opening day. Doctor Maurice Kohn reports a nice comeback though another checkup is scheduled before final approval.
Milwaukee area report notes Marquette University veteran quarterback Karl Plath returns to the Hilltop team for practice. Plath earned letters in 1944 and 1945, left school a month ago, awaited a draft call at Elgin home, was rejected for military service, and immediately rejoined Coach Frank Murray’s backfield efforts.
Jorge Pasquel denounces Judge Landis and rails at current U S figures in baseball. He says he will file a $100000 breach suit against Mickey Owen and Vernon Stephens and accuses Al Chandler Branch Rickey of steerage. Pasquel claims unfair readmission rules and vows legal action to enforce contracts worldwide.
Kenosha fighters George Murray and Tommy Ingrasci headline a six bout program at Memorial Hall in Racine. Milwaukee’s Al Lau meets Murray in a 135 pound main event as matches feature Racine and Milwaukee contenders under promoter Marshall Simonsen. Officials include judges Harry Cohen and Gilly Jackson with Leo Brennan timing and Paul Wellnitz announcer.
Thelma Grambo, 22, of Domremy, Saskatchewan, plans a 2 500 mile dogsled journey to Saskatoon then Pascagoula Mississippi for All American Girls Baseball League tryouts. Officials in Chicago note her unique trek and potential to join the league this year.
Howard Seavert of Simmons Ace Springs posted a 697 series to break Otto Lemke’s 693 season best and added a 269 game to surpass Carl Lundberg’s 267. He bowled on lanes 7 and 8 at Union Club alleys as the Major Bowling League reaches its closing week. Chicago star George Mikan and Oshkosh guard Bob Feerick headline the all tourney squad at the world professional basketball event in Fort Wayne. Mikan led scorers with 100 points and earned MVP honors while second team includes Cloyd Calihan Bloom Stutz Carpenter.
Kenosha Youth Foundation director Johnny Galvich announced a Veterans Night program on Thursday at 7:15 p m. at the KYF building with Army vs Navy as the theme. About 50 WW II veterans will compete in handball swimming weight lifting volleyball and basketball with tumbling and diving exhibitions and multiple events listed throughout the evening.
Montreal celebrates as the Canadiens defeat the Boston Bruins 6 to 3 in the NHL playoff final. The victory gives Montreal eight wins in nine post season Stanley Cup games and follows a five game series with four wins for Montreal after previous success against the Chicago Blackhawks in the semi finals.

Joe Grace belts a 13th inning homer to beat Chicago, while Hal Trosky plans switch hitting with the White Sox against the Pirates. Ex paratrooper Johnny Grodzicki debuts for the Cardinals against the Oklahoma City Indians. Vern Stephens returns to shortstop for the Browns in the Cubs game as Mark Christman moves to third. Tigers meet Reds in a Florida-to-Indiana-Ohio four game set after rallying past the Braves in Evansville. Greyhound breeders report $8,000,000 worth shipped abroad last year.
