Beach seeks rehearing in Highlands homestead contest
Harry Beach and G E Hanson contest a 160 acre Highlands tract. A rehearing is sought before Secretary Fisher after a prior ruling by the Interior assistant secretary suggesting Hanson had a prior right. The hearing before Land Commissioner Gillis in Walla Walla included Sharpstein for Hanson and Lockerby for Beach. Beach argues insufficient first year improvements justify contest beyond the assistant secretary’s ruling. A decision is expected in a month or so, with Beach aiming to receive title thereafter.
