Irrigation Project Near Town Uses Pumping System

Owen Jones, jeweler of North Yakima, completes arrangements to pump water to sixty acres section 2 west of town south of the reservoir. A second reservoir will hold 100000 gallons, fed by a three stage centrifugal pump at 300 gallons a minute from the Columbia River, powered by City Light and Power Company. A six inch pipe will conduct water. work on the reservoir has begun and operation is expected this season. The project aims to prove fertility of the bench area for future government canal irrigation.

Sheep Shearing at Wenner Co Plant Among Rapid Operations

The Wenner Sheep Co power shearers process 20,000 yearling sheep in a five day run using a 10 horsepower gasoline engine. Twelve men work at individual pens clipping about 80 sheep daily each, earning 10 to 12 dollars per day. Fleeces weigh light and are transported in large sacks to depots. after completion, work shifts to Underwood Field Sted bands and moves west toward the Cascades summer range near Hot Springs.

Portland merchants eye spring river service revival

F J Smiru superintendent informs Portland merchants that service will resume up the Columbia to Umatilla and Kennewick as river levels rise. Outside boats will run at least weekly until the new steamer J N Teal launches in April enabling thrice weekly Portage trips. He requests April order estimates and promises updated tariff rates.

Inland Waterways Commission Named by President Roosevelt
