A. E. Verity reports Benton County's audit overall clean, praising recording systems while noting technical errors and disputed fees. He cites school and county matters as areas where red tape enforcement caused alleged discrepancies, most of which are not systemic or harmful to officials.
The state public service commission named Kennewick one of fourteen centers eligible for distributive rate freight discounts from 10 to 31 percent for distances from 100 to 400 miles. The order, effective March 1, covers all railroads in the state and treats freight moving both into and out of the cities. Kennewick joins Seattle and others, signaling economic growth, more shippers, warehouses, and closer standing with larger cities due to a strong local commercial organization backing legal action by Judge Grosscup.
W. F. Metzger of Portal North Carolina, cashier of the International Bank, visited Kennewick with plans to invest. He previously bought ten acres south of town and now expects a $25,000 value rise in five years. He aims to make Kennewick Valley his headquarters and attract eastern investors seeking warmer winters.
Sixty couples attended the mid holiday masquerade hosted by the Commercial Club with many out of town guests from Pasco. Mrs. Harry Roseman wore a winter scene costume and A. R. Gardner portrayed Cy Perkins to win prizes.
Due to the society's New Year meeting, next week's rehearsal is postponed to Friday night the 5th.
Kennewick marked Christmas with community gatherings, church programs, and school celebrations. Santa Claus appeared at multiple events including Highlands, the high school, and Latin party, while students performed songs, recitations, and feasts followed the ancient custom of a festive feed.
The Commercial Club schedules a luncheon on Wednesday January 10 at 6 30 with speakers on the Get Together Movement and Kennewick civic progress. Topics include public publicity city country cooperation and harvest questions. Supper and stunts are promised to educate and unite residents and boosters for a better Kennewick.
Northern city fans plan a New Years Day program with a Kennewick vs Pasco baseball game followed by a local football match and an open air amateur boxing bout on Second street between the Pharmacy and the Toggery. A martial band, advertising pictures, and a Commercial Club dance close the free day of entertainment.
In Vancouver B C Wednesday evening B E Reser son of Stewart and Reser and Lillian Kiltz daughter of the bride’s parents were wed at the home of the bride. The couple will reside in Kennewick at the Hastings residence on Third Street. Reser is active with the local Commercial Club and coaches its basketball team. The community offers congratulations and best wishes for a prosperous future.
The town celebrated the season with festive menus praised by guests and a hotel busy with visitors. Shops displayed decorations on Second Street while G. L. March staged The Night Before Christmas in Stewart and Reser windows. A mechanical Christmas tree drew crowds at the Bazar and Pacific Power & Light funded a snow slide display near Reporter office.
