In Havana on Sept 27 the Moderate national assembly voted to name a six member peace committee to negotiate with rebels and liberals. They agreed to arbitrate unresolved points by U S commissioners and to avoid demanding armament first. Taft approval noted with caveats.
A Mexican peace talks session ends with unanimous demand that any reopening require rebels to lay down their arms before negotiating. Acting Interior Secretary Montalvo reports the condition to Taft and Bacon, who must decide if the proposal is acceptable.
Secretary Taft provided the Associated Press with a calendar of negotiations as Moderates push for intervention through government resignations. President Palm rejected the proposals while Alfredo Zayas sought to persuade Liberal leaders to back the Moderates. The United States warned it would enforce a settlement and may establish a temporary military government until free elections are secured.
A Wabash passenger train crashed into a freight near Danville Alabama after a switch was left open. Six lives were lost including engineer Jonas Butler and fireman A W Allison. Dozens injured, many with burns, as authorities investigated cause and listed victims. Separately in Norfolk, conductors reach wage agreement with Seaboard Air Line officials ensuring a substantial raise.
Clinton Missouri September 27 Alex Pengilly a member of the Union squad that seized Jefferson Davis and who collected a share of the reward died here from complications after an operation at age 60.
Chicago, Sept. 27 scores list League games in Boston St Louis 6 3, Philadelphia 0, Pittsburg 8, New York 6, Brooklyn 12 7. American: Cleveland 5 Philadelphia 3, Detroit 2 New York 0, St Louis 5 Washington 1, Chicago 2 Boston 0. Western: Omaha 2 Sioux City 6, Lincoln 2 Des Moines 4.
New York Republicans nominated Charles E Hughes for governor by acclamation at the state convention in Saratoga on Sept 7. The ticket named M Linn Bruce as lieutenant governor and a full slate including John F F OBrien secretary of state and Julius M Mayer attorney general. Stewart L Woodford was named national committee head with Timothy L Woodruff as state chairman. The platform praised Roosevelt and attacked tariffs while endorsing tariff reform and public utilities regulation.
In Buffalo a Democratic state convention backed William Randolph Hearst for governor with 226 votes, while Lewis Stuyvesant Chanler and John S. Whiten won positions for lieutenant governor and secretary of state on the Independence League slate. The vote marked a bitter clash, with Sulzer supporters opposing Hearst amid loud protests and dramatic floor speeches.
William J Bryan arrived in McAlester Oklahoma on a special train and spoke in front of the Elks hall. He aligned Tremocrats to insist the new state Democratic party be united from center to circumference.
Oyster Bay Sept 27 The president sent a telegram after learning of the Republican state convention nomination of Charles F Hughes for governor. He said I rejoice for the sake of the cause of good citizenship in your negiation.
Paul O Stensland admitted embezzling about 400000 linked to the Milwaukee Avenue Bank collapse. He pleaded guilty to two indictments in Chicago and received concurrent sentences from one to five and one to ten years. A fine of 120 was imposed for deposits after insolvency. State’s Attorney Healy said the confession established guilt for him and others.
John P. Kennedy 21 year old captain and right half back of the Lawrenceville football team died an hour after being kicked in the head during a practice game in Lawrenceville Princeton. He lived in Troy New York and collapsed after walking off the field.

The firm, led by three Sons, expanded from a small brick building to a large block long empire with a hitching yard adjacent.
In Shelbyville on September 27 a black man confronted workers at the Blodgett Construction camp where many labors cut the Bie Four railway grade. He fired a revolver wounding Fossette an Italian and struck an attacker before fleeing aboard a freight train.
Vincennes Indiana September 27 John Debord 30 enters a local restaurant where his wife works and shoots her four times as she tries to exit, killing her. Debord had been drinking and fled but was later captured.
At the Indiana yearly meeting of friends in Richmond Indiana the largest Quaker gathering, John Henry Doughis of Pasadena California urged accelerating world evangelization. Robert W. Doughiss of Versailles also spoke as delegates from several states and some foreign countries attend the opening session.
Indianapolis Sept. 27 A C Short ridge once a noted educator after whom Shortridge high school was named was struck by a Greenfield interurban car at stop No 7 about a mile and a half east of Tivington. One leg was severed. He is blind and 7 years old.
Evansville news reports Guy Martin drowned while fishing for misses shells in the Ohio River. His brother had perished at the same location months earlier in the same stretch.
Washington Sept 27 The next term of the US Supreme Court opens next Monday with a docket of over 400 cases and additions expected. Early items include contempt proceedings from Chattimeuga Tennessee lynching, Kansas Colorado river waters dispute, Barcelon vs Maker on habeas in the Philippines, Western Federation officers case, Pearcy vs Stranaluin on Isle of Pines status, and Wilson vs secretary of treasuries mercy recounts on the Panama Canal purchase.
Report from Manila traces a planned revolt against President Alfarean Setiuerio, with rebels reportedly seizing Giecceidi in Bedivar. Arrests occur across the republic, linked to ex president Paz of Bermidar who once served as US minister. Separately, typhoons devastate Luzon towns and tobacco regions, destroying crops and ponds with significant losses.
Denver, Sept 27 Vice President Fairbanks was guest of honor at a Chamber of Commerce banquet at the Brown Palace Hotel. Thomas F. Walsh the millionaire mining man acted as toastmaster and Fairbanks replied to the toast Our country with a brief address.
Chicago and East Buffalo markets report futures and cash prices for wheat corn oats and soy futures with nightly bids. Cattle hogs sheep and calves trade ranges cited. East Buffalo consignors note higher hog receipts and steady sheep values.

McGrew fled the scene and remains at large as Sheriff Hayward hunts a tall, slender 21-year-old with dark hair and eyes. Griffith was forty.
A five year old golden haired girl was found alone in a rear coach of passenger train No 7 near Kankakee. The conductor had passed her several times and assumed a mother was at the end of the car. The child cried as strangers frightened her and no mother was located. It is believed she was put on the train at South Bend or another station and deserted.
Waterloo Press reports the T. and C. Interurban Railway Co officers promise an extension to Waterloo this fall. The line from north of Garrett will connect to the Fort Wayne division, following a court ruling restricting its jetty siding and curves work.
Clarence Hopkins and Mrs Rosel Alber will be married tonight at the groom’s home on 703 Richmond Street with Rev. C B White officiating. The couple will depart tonight for Buffalo and other eastern points for a short trip.
