President Roosevelt joined Memorial Day ceremonies in Portsmouth Virginia with surviving Confederate veterans and Union groups. An overloaded excursion steamer capsized off a Riga pier while setting sail for Dubbein, drowning fifteen people. Rescue efforts saved some passengers as authorities investigated the cause of the tragedy.

A workmen group of over 600 built a canvas city in Kendallville to host a White City exhibit. The event features a 300000 parade, a 20000-seat circus, Flying Nutts and Courtgps acts, Flying Penward, and a Flying Squadron kitchen line. Doors open 1 and 7 pm with reserved chairs and waterproof tents for a spectacular day.
At the St Paul biennial convention the General Federation of Women’s Clubs will launch a movement to defeat Mrs Sarah Platt Decker of Denver in her bid for a second term as president. The gathering will feature exhibits of women sculptors authors weavers composers inventors and other creators with events in the armory and addresses by Governor Johnson and others.
Severe injuries follow a mishap during a friendly scuffle while unloading hay and cement blocks on a Goshen to Winona ride. Ed Taylor mortally and Earl Chid dist er were injured as bales toppled, Taylor fell under a wheel and was struck a second time. Head and neck bruises reported. Witness John Smoker.
