Old Soldiers Respond Honor McKinley Memorial

Comrades of William McKinley and other veterans express tribute to the dead president by sending offerings to Myron T. Herrick in Cleveland, funding the McKinley National Memorial Desociation. An old veteran sent his full pension check with a fifty cent oddity to symbolize flowers for the grave.

Indiana National Guard reports growth and unit locations

Adjutant General Ward’s report to Washington shows Indiana Guard strength rising to 2413 enlisted men, about 300 more than 1900, with 500000 residents not in the Guard subject to army call. It lists infantry, artillery, hospital and other detachments by city and battalion, and notes new officer installations by the Tribe of Beo Hur at a recent meeting.

Carnegie Gifts in 1901 Reach 40 Million for Libraries

The 1901 allocations total 40.2 million dollars for libraries and educational causes. Carnegie's fortune is estimated around 250 million with an annual income of 12.5 million. Major gifts include 10 million to a national university in Washington and 10 million to Scotland’s universities, plus 7 million to a Pittsburgh technical institute.

Noble County Ditches Add Wealth But Value Remains Uncertain

Five hundred miles of circuit court and commissioners ditches have been built in Noble county over seven years. The project cost many thousand dollars and reclaimed hundreds of acres of bottom and swamp land. The exact wealth added is not determinable, though it will reach many thousand dollars according to New Era.
