Walter Colvin and Charles Johnson, both African American youths, were sentenced to life imprisonment by a jury in Judge Sabeth's court for involvement in recent race riots. Several other Black men were acquitted in the same proceedings. The report also notes a separate incident where Max Bauer, a white man, assaulted a Colored girl at a movie theatre and was fined for disorderly conduct.
Colonel Roscoe Conkling Simmons drew a huge crowd at the First A. M. E. Church in Kansas City Kas delivering a three hour oration on Black history and heroism in France. He opposed the League of Nations, recounting an unknown Negro soldier grave and received a five minute ovation. Simmons plans a lecture tour from Phoenix to Vancouver with Kansas City seeking a larger convention hall audience.
Representative Simeon D. Fess compares President Wilson's push to compel legislative subordination to executive decree with President Andrew Johnson's 1867 clash with Congress. He notes Johnson's trip to the country and bitter rhetoric, drawing parallels to Wilson's fight with the Senate over treaty-making power and asserts both cases test executive strength against legislative authority.

A factory employing about 3,600 reported 18 percent of its August 1919 injuries, many blamed on workers’ own carelessness. Large Kansas City firms are pushing for proper machine guarding to reduce accidents, while advocates say public welfare must lead the effort.
A shouting plea requests a crossing officer at the 6th and Woodland corner near Attucks School to prevent accidents as children travel to and from school. The author urges the Board of Education and police commissioners to act immediately to protect students and avoid tragedy.
A southbound Missouri Pacific passenger train derailed another train at a siding on the Fort Leavenworth reservation early Wednesday. Five crew members, all Ne froes, were injured including cook Leon Hanners who sustained internal injuries and may die. Ward and three waiters Mosby Givens and Mormon were less gravely hurt as the southbound locomotive fell from the rear and toppled toward the Missouri River. Passengers were shaken but none injured.
Prof H L Cox principal of Wendell Phillips Schon Howard and Vine streets was savagely attacked with a hatchet by John Watson who lives next door to him. The motive cited involves a dispute over aiding Watson's stepdaughter Edna Williams to pursue higher education. Cox had words with Williams' mother before the attack and sustained several minor wounds. A warrant was issued for Watson who had not yet been apprehended at press time.

In Perth Ky a nine-year-old boy, nephew of Blind Tom the famed musician, has inherited his grand uncle’s talents. He plays complex pieces with flawless memory after hearing only once. Local family hosts a reception where musicians tested him, and a Paris composer’s work was repeated perfectly. Plans exist for a public performance and tour.
Mrs Hettle Davia of 1709 Michigan Ave expresses thanks for the handling of a death claim tied to her brother Bill Turner by the American Woodmen.
