By J Dallas Bowser three causes stirred the American heart and resulted in giving the ballot to women. The first cause was belief in political social and civic equality the second was wider knowledge of world problems and the third hope that women would use their power for betterment. Women should vote as independent voters not as party hacks and oppose gambling corruption and vice while studying platforms and candidates and registering every qualified voter.
The Lincoln Theatre presents a varied program headlined by Mark Twain’s Huckleberry Finn in a literary course tie in. Jack Dempsey stars in Daredevil Jack with The Modern Musketeer starring Douglas Fairbanks followed by Uncle Tom’s Cabin and In Old Kentucky in a two day finale. Audience interest soars with crowd records and praise for Fairbanks and Dempsey. The vaudeville portion remains clean and lively for a strong two hour show.
The NAACP reports that African American voters in eight pivotal Northern states could decide the next president. The association says the Negro vote may constitute the balance of power in states totaling 165 electoral votes, due to immigration and women’s enfranchisement.
A cancer treatment clinic will be held at Old City Hospital each morning at 9 o clock. Dr L A Mirty of General Hospital will conduct the clinic with Dr William Thompkins, superintendent, securing 12000 dollars from the Hospital and Health Board for radium use.
Mrs Mildred Jett of 2805 East 10th Street returns from a month in Chicago Illinois and reports a pleasant stay. An advertisement notes Jeff's Cobblera at 15 cents per order.
A call to register amid the coming October days emphasizes the duty of both colored men and women in states and cities with registration laws. The message likens a non registering voter to an unloaded weapon, stressing preparedness and participation.
Dr Sidney E Johnson a well known city druggist owns a stocky drug store at 1700 East Mth Street and recently bought the Southwest corner property at 12th and Highland half block. The site now houses leased business space. Johnsons geniality and fair dealing have earned him an enviable patronage in a few months. The race is proud of his enterprising and aggressive leadership.
Dr and Mrs E C Bunch returned home tired but happy after a five weeks visit in eastern cities. They met Mrs G W Scott of Vinton Ohio and Mrs Elizabeth Medley in Chillicothe Ohio then visited cousin George Medley and classmate Dr Mann in Marion. They shook hands with Senator Harding and toured Mrs Bunchs mother Lulu Wilson in St Louis and relatives in Indianapolis Dayton Gary Cincinnati Columbus and Chicago.
Richard Allen of 2934 Highland Avenue, injured by an automobile last week, has been discharged from hospital and is rapidly improving at home. A longtime porter for the First National Bank, he enjoys well wishes from his employers and family for a speedy recovery.
P Randolph reports from Dearfield in the South Platte valley, noting growth, busy streets, a hotel, and clustered dwellings. He praises dry land farming by Black farmers, the 800 acre holdings, and the town’s founders led by T. Jackson, transforming land once seen as a desert into productive settlement.

Mrs Emma Payne of Columbus Kentucky had spent several months visiting her son Dr Lloyd Peebles and wife, and on the way home stopped in St Louis Missouri to visit a daughter.
Reverend G T Moxby of Greenwood Baptist writes from Chicago on the National Baptist Convention trip. Delegates and 24 plates visited Marion Ohio to press for equal constitutional rights before Senator Harding. Harding met the delegation, praised the race, and promised non discrimination if elected. The writer also notes Chicago Negro church activity and a 7000 member New Olivet Baptist Church.
The Current Bulletin of the NAACP asserts that newly enfranchised colored women in the South will be harder to intimidate from voting than men. It praises their past protests and urges branches nationwide to form training classes for these new voters on duties and privileges of voting.
Members of Club No 1 of Liberty Temple 8. M. T. held a social on Tuesday evening September 21 at the residence of W P Mrs E Hillard 1515 EB 18th Street. The event raised a neat little sum. Mrs M Robinson was president and Mrs Ella Martin vice president.
