Three Foot Ledge of Gold Quartz Found at Black Bear Mine
Grass Valley California April 2 A three foot ledge of gold quartz estimated to run hundreds of dollars a ton has been struck in the Black Bear mine in the Rough and Ready district. The mine is among the oldest in California but has never been worked at such depths. The Black Bear is owned largely by Kansas farmers.

Bishop Turner dies at 82 in Atlanta
Bishop Henry McNeal Turner, 82, senior AME bishop, died at his Atlanta home on May 8 and was buried with honors May 12. A pioneering figure, Turner was the Army's first colored commissioned officer, first Africa bishop, father of the Back to Africa Movement, and a noted orator who served in Georgia’s legislature and various public posts.

Masonic Relief Board Meets at Grand Master’s Office
The Masonic Relief Board met in Grand Master Nelson C. Crews’s office at 1803 E. 18th Street last Monday at 9 a.m. and approved twenty‑two claims totaling $4,400 for the quarter. Sixteen claims were continued due to irregularities or delinquency of subordinate judges. Departments gave strong reports and the Grand Secretary read letters praising the Burial department’s prompt work. The next meeting will be in Hannibal, just before the next Grand Lodge session.
