Colored bandmaster honored in the Philippines farewell concert

Major Walter H. Loving, retiring bandmaster of the Philippine Constabulary Band after 14 years, received a gold watch, platinum chain, and a gold purse from Manila supporters. Judy Gilbert presented the gifts as Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever played. Loving handed his baton to Lt Navarro and expressed thanks. He will retire February 21 with lingered hopes to return. a dinner at Sta. Lucia barracks followed.

Longtime Kansas City educator R W Foster dies at 63

R W Foster, principal of Wendell Phillips school and a 40 year veteran in Kansas City education, died after a period of illness. Born in Columbia Tennessee, he taught at Westport and Lincoln High before leading Douglass and Wendell Phillips. Survived by wife Elvira and five children, his funeral drew a large out of town Masons contingent and filled Allen Chapel with floral tributes. Interment at Highland Cemetery.

Paseo Y M C A Members Meeting Great Success

Paseo Y M C A celebrated its annual members meeting with about 100 men in attendance. A Washington telegram from J R E Lee was read, with commendations from Dr J Moorland A A Hyde and Julius Rosenwald. Henry J Harris gave $100 for furnishing and $25 for the campaign, urging continued faith and service.
