Bundy Trial Underway In Waterloo Court House Scene

Waterloo Illinois March 21 101 the Bundy trial opens in a courthouse on main street with Judge Gilliam presiding. The prosecution led by C W Middlehaul J A Farmer and state prosecutors Bolinger Schaumileffel and Gallere faces defense chiefs Webb Baxter Zerweek Frederick Tueston Calloway Homer G Phillips and P W Howard. Jury drawn by Bolinger and Webb, with witnesses including several notable locals. Defense seeks continuance but court overrules. jury of ten farmers one merchant and one laborer appointed. The trial promises broad witness testimony and continued public interest, aided by Bundy’s wife’s vigorous defense efforts.

52nd Detachment Parades Through Kanassity Streets

A detachment of the 2nd Division halted in Kanassity on Friday morning and paraded downtown at 10 A M led by city officials and the Negro Kansas State Guard under Major D A Holmes. Dinner was served by a waiting committee. At 1 30 Friday afternoon thousands lined the streets as the squad received a hearty reception.

Rev J Sterling Moore Honors Dr Phillips Lodge Leader

Rev J Sterling Moore spoke at Pilgrim Ret Baptist Church praising Dr Phillips for 25 years of organizational work among his people. The event featured gifts from the People's Institute Band and local figures including a gold headed cane and bronze calendar holder. Mayor Lofton and Attorney McManus delivered final remarks highlighting the doctor’s long career and personal gifts, while the honoree thanked speakers and admitted he was surprised by the generosity.

Four Camp Grant Officers to Defend Negro Soldiers

Camp Grant officers were appointed by Maj. Gen. Willard Holbrook to defend thirteen negro soldiers in their second trial for allegedly assaulting a white woman at the cantainment last May. Col. Ben H. Dorsey will be chief counsel, with Maj. Frederick A. Lind as assistant. Capt. Lewis E. Johnson and Lieut. Louis C. Washington will aid in the defense.

Defense Society seeks clemency for Houston Riot cases

Telegram from Topeka Kansas by Kansan Defense Society reports Congressman Anthony securing a review of Houston Riot cases at Washington and a habeas corpus hearing this month. The group calls for funds, states no action until a default detainee is freed, and asks subscriptions to support the effort.
