By Charles A. Starks a Kansas City Negro attorney, W. C. Houston, is placed on the Republican ticket as Alderman in the Eighth Ward. Kansas City mourns the sudden death of J Russell A Crossland Jr at St Joseph Missouri from spinal meningitis. He was in the Army at Camp Funston on furlough, passed through Kansas City, fell ill, and died early Sunday after lapsing into unconsciousness. Dr Crossland, a former minister to Liberia, had trained him for a medical career.
A 1918 gospel proclamation by ISAIAH MINOR includes prophecies and warnings about Mexicans and a coming crisis. It notes a time 1 p m March 9 and cites biblical verses. The text shifts to a probate notice detailing the will of Prof H T Kealing leaving $50 000 in property to widow and children, with properties in Philadelphia Bordentown New Jersey a ranch near Waco Texas and a Wyandotte county farm. A church notice for a quarterly Allen Chapel meeting on Sunday March 17 invites all.
William Clarence Hueston Republican nominee for Alderman Eight Ward born in Kentucky 37 years ago. He studied at Kansas University Law Department graduating 1904 and began practice in Kansas City. He owns a home at 1514 East 11th Street and holds multiple civic and fraternal positions including Masons Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias. He urges all races to vote for him and "All men up and no men down."
